Lucas #1019 Rust Primer – Water-Based is a 100% acrylic corrosion inhibiting primer intended for the preparation of rusty metal roofs and walls prior to installation of Lucas acrylic roof and wall coatings. Its light yellow color changes to a darker amber hue as the coating dries. This allows for visual confirmation of the coating’s level of cure and readiness for application of the top coatings.

Lucas #1019 is manufactured with 100% acrylic polymers and rust inhibited pigments and additives. It is formulated to a relatively thin viscosity and low surface tension allowing for complete penetration and encapsulation of surface rust.

Application:

Mechanically mix before using. Do not store above 90ºF. Apply only at temperatures above 40ºF and rising with less than 90% humidity and no threat of rain for 48 hours. Surfaces must be power washed clean with a suitable residue-free detergent such as Lucas #115. The surface may be damp but must be free of standing water. Surface temperatures should be under 100ºF to avoid premature curing. If roof surface is hot, apply a light water spray to reduce its temperature.

Apply with a soft bristle brush, roller or suitable spray equipment at the rate of 1/2 to 3/4 gallon per 100 sq. ft. Drying time is 1 to 2 hours. Two additional coats of Lucas Elastomeric Roof Coating at 1.25 to 1.5 gallons per sq. ft. each is required to achieve a thickness of 20 to 30 mils. The first top coat should be #1000BC which is light gray in color.

Shelf Life: One year from the date of manufacture.
